Cyber security hacker breach

UK Businesses Warned To Bolster Cyber Security Amid Hacking Threats

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has urged UK organisations to bolster their cyber security defences amid Russia’s threat to Ukraine. This follows a series of cyber security breaches in Ukraine, which are suspected to have come from Russia – although have been denied by Moscow.

Whilst these threats are currently based in Ukraine, the fear for the UK is how quickly this can spread. In 2017 a ransomware attack was conducted on software for file tax returns in Ukraine, which quickly span out of control and ended with many UK businesses finding their operations down, proving disastrous and creating downtime for many.

Small Businesses Are Being Targetted More Frequently

A common misconception that can cost small businesses dearly is the thought that they will not become victims of a cyber attack due to their size.

It is no longer the case where cybercriminals are only looking to target multinationals or governments.  Small and medium-sized businesses are being targeted in more sophisticated ways.

Every day in the UK around 65,000 cyber-attacks are attempted on small to medium-sized businesses, with hackers succeeding in these attacks, on average, every 19 seconds. The effects of these attacks can be catastrophic, with downtime often being large, and hackers holding employee data for ransom, meaning that businesses have to pay large sums of money to retrieve it. 1/3 of UK businesses who are affected by these attacks also report they lose customers as a result.

The threat of cyber-attacks is rising year upon year, which is why it is time to trust Nybble as your cyber security partner.
